The Idea: Why just study textbook equations when you can tackle real-world challenges?
Solvers’ Bay is EIC’s flagship open innovation initiative. Inspired by student-led consulting and problem-solving groups at leading global institutes like MIT and Stanford, we are bringing this collaborative model to IISER Pune. Each week, we come together as a campus to take on massive, live global bounties and problem statements hosted by organizations like NASA.
Highly collaborative, intensely ambitious, and intentionally diverse.
We believe the best breakthroughs happen when different skillsets collide. At the Bay, you’ll find BS-MS undergraduates brainstorming right alongside senior PhD scholars. We bring together fresh, out-of-the-box thinking and deep research expertise into one room to build truly competitive solutions.
What to Expect
Live Global Bounties: We target active, high-stakes problems (like NASA's $150K Lunar Grounding Problem) that are currently open to the public.
Interdisciplinary Teams: Open to all disciplines, years, and experience levels. Whether you are a biologist, a coder, a data scientist, or a physicist, your unique angle is needed.
Action-Oriented: We aren't just discussing ideas; we are structuring, designing, and submitting real solutions on a global stage.

Session 1: "The Lunar Grounding Problem" (Bounty Pool announced: $150,000)
Protect the Astronaut. Control the Discharge.
Can you stop an astronaut from getting electrocuted by their own spacesuit?
On the Moon, astronauts can accumulate dangerous static electrical charge while exploring the surface. If that charge discharges suddenly when they return to their lunar lander, the resulting spark could damage critical equipment and threaten crew safety. NASA is seeking innovative ways to safely discharge astronauts before they touch the lander. Can you design a solution?
